International Work Experience
Camp Equinunk and Blue Ridge, Pennsylvania, Summer 2013.
Whilst undergoing my Bachelor Degree I applied for a temporary ceramics specialist position at a summer camp called Camp Blue Ridge in Pennsylvania. During this time I was responsible for teaching girls aged 7-16, this involved devising my own lesson plans for 4 activities per day, each of which were my own personal ideas which I regularly adapted to suit their individual needs taking into consideration their age, skill and experience. Throughout my time there I was constantly praised for the support and commitment I showed in helping to develop the skills and capabilities of the children. My excellent organisation skills enabled me to forward plan, prepare and set up each activity including cleaning and keeping order of all materials, equipment and finished pieces made within the workshop. As a result of my enthusiasm, motivation and understanding of the children’s individual needs I was also appointed the position of bunk counsellor, which required me to care, support and counsel those who needed it on a daily basis.
Camp Blue Ridge was a traditional camp with traditional values. It was an exciting experience to work in America and it gave me the opportunity to teach what I love and to appreciate the American culture.
